Are you a Category Manager looking for your next venture?

Do you have experience with solar, membranes & roofing ventilation products and pitch roofing products?

We’re currently recruiting for a construction supplier that specialises in distributing roofing materials worldwide. They are looking for a Category Manager to be based at their head office in York or their satellite office in Doncaster.

The overall purpose of the role is to dynamically manage a group of product categories to achieve their financial targets. To ensure that the categories meet customer demands and deliver an outstanding and consistent offer throughout the company’s branch network.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Accountable for the sales and gross margin (trading margin and rebate) for the categories managed, developing and maintaining an ongoing margin improvement plan
• Prepare and maintain budgets and forecasts for the categories
• Propose to the board category changes including suppliers, ranges, and geographical variances
• To be the first point of contact and principal communicator with the supplier base
• Maintain relationships with suppliers and potential suppliers to the categories and negotiate agreements including ranging, cost prices, marketing support, payment periods and rebates, measure performance against set targets through supplier engagement plans.
• Implement and manage compliance to approved supplier agreements
• Set and maintain consistency of customer offer and pricing.

The role of the Category Manager is being done well when:

• The categories are delivering the agreed budget for sales, gross margin and working capital
• The forecast for rebate is accurate and to expectation
• Plans are constantly developed to drive the category performance

Knowledge/Skills/Experience

• Excellent numeracy and analytical ability
• Ability to use Excel and PowerPoint
• Knowledge of the roofing products market
• Effective listening and communication skills
• Strong and flexible negotiator

Package:

• Negotiable base salary around £60K
• 30% Bonus
• Pension
