We’re currently recruiting for a manufacturer of acoustic, fire and thermal insulation for building facades for over 45 years. They’re looking for a Logistics Manager to be based at their office in Maesteg.
The logistics manager leads the day-to-day operation of transport, despatch and goods receiving and is accountable for the accuracy of the inventory that moves through those areas. The role exists to make sure that every order leaves the site complete, on time and correctly documented, that every inbound delivery is received and booked in promptly and that stock records reflect what is physically in the warehouse.
This is an entry level management position as you will line manage a small team across shifts and will work closely with planning, production, quality and customer service.
Principal Responsibilities
- The postholder has direct line management responsibility for the transport, despatch and goods receiving teams and is expected to set the standard for how those areas run.
- Own the cycle counting programme: set the count calendar, assign counters, and count high-value and fast-moving lines at a greater frequency than the rest of the range. Driving results that will eliminate the need for annual stock takes.
- Day-to-day control of the inbound and outbound operation sits with this role, from load planning through to proof of delivery.
- The Logistics Manager works alongside the planning team and is expected to turn the plan into a deliverable daily operation.
- Yard and warehouse activity carries some of the highest operational risk on site, and the postholder is responsible for how safely it is run.
- The business is looking for measurable improvement in service and inventory accuracy, and this role is expected to lead that work within its own areas.
Qualifications
- Hold a grade 5/C or above in Math and English GCSE (or equivalent) (essential).
- Level 3 qualification in logistics, supply chain or warehousing (desirable).
- IOSH Managing Safely (desirable).
- Counterbalance or Reach Truck License (desirable).
Job Function Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Experience working in a warehouse, transport, despatch or goods receiving environment as a team or shift leader.
- Experience within a manufacturing or make-to-order business.
- Confident use of ERP systems / warehouse management systems for stock transactions, goods receipt and despatch.
